Benefits of a sensory deprivation float tank in Gerrards Cross
The name sensory deprivation float tank sounds harsh as there is a negative undertone in the name. However, most of us, if not all of us, can benefit from this float therapy. We live in a world of having a small computer at our fingertips, in the bag or pocket, bombarded by information, light, sound, and graphics everywhere. Our sensory float tank undoes this by giving you time “to be – and just be.” Connect deeply with yourself, it is forced meditation, meditation for people who don’t know what meditation feels like.
Our yoga club and floatation tank combined can take you a long way to recognise, understand and practice wellness for yourself. This floatation spa is inside the yoga studio and is easy to reach from surrounding areas. Here is a rough guide for driving distance and time taken to reach us, please consult traffic on the day of travelling. For floatation in Marlow – 11.6 miles / 23 mins, floatation in Beaconsfield - 4.4 miles/9 mins, floatation in Fulmer - 1.7 miles / 4 mins, floatation in Maidenhead - 12.4 miles /25 mins, Stoke Poges floatation – 3 miles / 6 mins, Uxbridge floatation – 5.5 miles / 11 mins, Amersham floatation – 9 miles / 16 mins, please consult our studio information page for more information.
Floatation tank therapy makes a great present – something different, something more thoughtful, something for wellness. The float spa has salt water and no chlorine, and one would ask if floatation therapy is suitable for pregnant women. The answer is yes; and it is also ideal for tight people, injured people, stressed people, and disabled people (as long as they can get in and out of the sensory float tank). It is suitable for everyone.
Floatation offers numerous benefits, including injury recovery, jet lag recovery (first-hand experience), hangover cure (customer experience), immune support, management of anxiety and panic attacks through assisted meditation and better night sleep.
Float tank deprivation impacts the Body
Injury Prevention and Recovery: The Floatation tank contains Epsom salt, which contains magnesium that is easily absorbed through the skin, helping to recover faster. This improves physical performance. This is proven to be better sitting in the bathtub at home as the tank has over 570kg of salt. So much so the salt crusts over you in an hour’s therapy. Floating also improves blood circulation and distribution of oxygen and nutrients helping to prevent injuries. This salt water therapy has proven excellent results for footballers, tennis players, runners, rugby players, cyclists, gym goers, golfers and anyone trying to prevent or recover from any type of injury.
Pain Relief: Studies have been done on the effects of floating in sensory deprivation tanks and pain relief. They show that floating helps relieve pain by being weightless in the water. It also releases endorphins that help with chronic pain, arthritis, migraines and other conditions. It helps to alleviate pain arising from bad posture. We have people of an age and disabled people coming for floatation therapy to release pain from their bodies and feel light.
Feel weightless during pregnancy: Feel featherlight in the water. Baby’ weight in the front of the body drives you down during pregnancy, resulting in aches and pains in the back, sore ankles and wrists. Women in their third trimester have found relief by swimming. This is because they have found profound relief from being weightless in the water. In the same way, floating whilst pregnant is excellent. Remember, this is effortless floating due to the salt content in the water. Being calm and relaxed and focusing on breathing with the movement in the belly through breath-watching cultivates a deeper connection with the baby.

Increased Concentration: One hour in a floatation tank equates to eight hours of sleep, which helps to increase focus and motivation. This is particularly helpful for exams, big pieces of work which require hours of concentration and participation in competitive sports or driving tests. We have a race car driver coming regularly to improve focus.
Instant Relaxation: Salt water relaxation tank activates the parasympathetic nervous system just like a relaxing yoga session. This promotes rest, relaxation and reduces stress. Your breath slows down and this instantly relaxes the body, which in turn relaxes the mind. With this, you undo the holding patterns - (places where you hold tension in the body), i.e. instant stress reduction. We have desk staff from all walks of life, such as accountants, lawyers, charity workers, mums buying vouchers for dads-to-be and daughters and sons buying floatation therapy in Gerrards Cross for their parents.
Better Sleep: With your breath slowing down, it creates an improved connection with the body – the signal to the nervous system is to move away from flight, fight, freeze or fawn. With instant rest, relaxation and digestion, deprivation float tank therapy improves sleep and regular treatment can improve insomnia. We have mums with toddlers who do not have enough sleep come regularly so they are more rested and have reported better sleep the next day.
Mental well-being: As the floatation spa reignites deeper relaxation, it helps against anxiety, depression and stress disorders, such as panic attacks and trauma. We have had yoga teachers who know how to control their breathing but are still suffering from odd panic attacks have had improved results in as little as two therapy sessions.

Access meditation: The Floatation tank is often referred to as a floating meditation tank. The reason for this is you have the earplugs in, and the sensory inputs like light, sound, people, chatter and phones are removed. Also, the time away from the screen, allows you to focus on your breath and invite deeper connection. We would like to call this assisted meditation. Someone who doesn’t know what meditation is understands what it is after one session. Time in the isolation tank allows for quiet contemplation and reflection.
Mantra & Visualisation practice : Time in the floating sensory deprivation tanks can be used for Mantra / affirmation practice or to connect with the universe, raise your vibrations and stop the inner chatter. People have reported epiphanies after their practice. Sudden clarity on specifics that you were looking for. Quiet time in the isolation tank is perfect for the visualisation technique. Build a detailed count of future vital events that you want to invite in your life. While floating, visualise one bit at a time and add on affirmation for a double benefit.
Yoga and Floating: Floatation tank therapy complements yoga practice and vice versa. The relaxation you feel after floatation therapy is comparable to a physically demanding dynamic practice, followed by Yin yoga, restorative yoga, and a gong bath. Relaxation in floating is instant due to meditation, stillness and quiet time. We would recommend adding floatation tank therapy into your wellness routine alongside the yoga practice.

What Our Clients Say About Us
It tried the floatation therapy for the first time yesterday. The lovely lady on the desk was very helpful and explained exactly the process and what was involved. The large floatation pod was amazing, music to start & end and mood lights to relax to and much roomier than I expected. It felt fantastic. The true test was later on though. I was told it would help aid sleep - I am not the best sleeper (especially with a 2 year old as well) However I had an extremely good night's sleep, the best I'd had in what seems forever! So to sum up my experience - I'm definitely "sold" on floatation therapy and I'm sure I will be back again. I would certainly recommend this.

When I arrived at Yoga Hook, I was immediately made to feel at ease by the welcoming and friendly team at reception. I tried the flotation therapy experience which was amazing and I felt genuinely relaxed and peaceful both during the session and afterwards also. I would highly recommend the experience to anyone who is looking to de-stress, relax and recharge their batteries and I will certainly be going again soon!

As a slightly claustrophobic sceptic, I had put off my gift of a session in the flotation tank for some time. It was a case of now or never, so last night I took the plunge (!). I didn't think I would, but I climbed into the clam like structure, closed the lid and turned off the lights immediately. It was more welcoming than I had expected and the fact that it was pitch-dark and top sealed did not faze me. I loved the sensory deprivation and being alone with a complete sense of calm and relaxation was worth getting wet for. It did not feel, to me, like being in water, more like floating in space. It was an hour well spent, as I slept like a baby with the added bonus of really soft skin. I'll definitely do it again.
